* 하나님 보시기에 위대한 모습으로 살라! *
작가 멜리사 뱅크는 왜 오늘날 많은 여성들이 결혼을 하지 않고 사느냐 하는 질문에 이렇게 썼습니다. ‘솔직히 사람들은 그저 평범한 남자와는 일생 살기를 원하지 않습니다. 자기 인생에 어떤 위대한 남성만 얻기를 원합니다.’ 물론 ‘위대함’이란 단어는 사람에 따라 다른 의미를 가질 수 있습니다. 그러나 성경은 진정한 위대함이란 하나님으로부터 인정 받고 축복 받을 때 나타나는 결과라고 가르치고 있습니다.
시편 112편의 ‘축복 받은 사람’, 곧 하나님으로부터 인정 받기를 즐거워하는 사람은 하나님을 경외하고(1절), 계명을 크게 즐거워하며(1절), 의로우며(3절), 어질고 자비하며(4절), 은혜를 베풀며(5절), 여호와를 굳게 의뢰하고(7절), 마음이 견고하여 두려워하지 않는 사람(7,8절)이라고 말합니다. 얼마나 좋은 품성들입니까! 이것이야말로 진정으로 위대한 사람의 표본들입니다. 성령님의 능력을 힘입어 우리 모두가 하나님 보시기에 위대한 모습으로 살 수 있기를 바랍니다.
Author Melissa Bank spelled out the answer why so many women in today’s society choose not to marry. “Let’s face it. You don’t just want a man in your life. You only want a great man in your life.” Of course, the definition of “great” might mean different things to different people. Yet the Bible teaches that true greatness is a result of being approved and blessed by God.
Look at the description in Psalm 112 of a “blessed” man-the one who enjoys the approval of God: He fears the Lord (v.1), he finds delight in God’s commands (v.1), he is righteous (v.3), he is gracious and compassionate (v.4), he is generous (v.5), he has a steadfast trust in God (v.7), he is secure and fearless (vv.7-8). What a list of characteristics! These are the marks of a truly great man. By the Holy Spirit’s enablement, may we all live in a way that marks us as great in God’s eyes.
