“하나님의 말씀을 행하는 삶”
북동부 커네티컷에는 1,983~2,000년에 지은 34,000여 채의 집이 잘못된 기초공사로 붕괴될 위험에 처해있습니다. 한 콘크리트 회사가 어느 채석장에서 돌을 캐내었는데, 그 돌에 광물질이 섞여있는 것을 모른 채 콘트리트로 사용했다가 시간이 지나면서 콘크리트가 갈라지고 부서지게 된 것입니다. 이미 6백여 채의 집이 무너졌고, 그 숫자는 시간이 지나면서 급증할 것으로 보입니다.
예수님이 말씀하시기를 어떤 사람들은 인생을 견고한 반석 위에 지어서 극심한 폭풍우를 만나도 든든히 서 있을 수 있지만, 어떤 사람들은 모래 위에 인생을 세워 폭풍이 몰아칠 때, ‘심하게’ 무너져버린다고 하셨습니다(마 7:27).
흔들리지 않는 토대와 무너지는 토대의 한 가지 차이는 그리스도의 말씀을 ‘실천’하느냐 않느냐는 것입니다(26절). 문제는 주님의 말씀을 ‘듣느냐’ 아니냐가 아니라, 그 말씀을 ‘실천하느냐’ 않느냐 하는 것입니다. 하나님의 말씀을 행하는 것만이 우리 ‘인생’을 반석 위에 짓는 유일한 길입니다.
In northeastern Connecticut, more than 34,000 homes built between 1983 and 2000 are at risk of collapse due to faulty foundations. A concrete company dug up stones from a quarry and used them as concrete without knowing that the stones contained minerals, causing the concrete to crack and break over time. Over 600 homes have already collapsed, and that number is expected to increase rapidly over time.
Jesus said that some people build their lives on a solid rock and can stand strong even in the face of severe storms, but others build their lives on sand and when the storm comes, they fall ‘hard’ (Matthew 7:27).
One difference between a firm foundation and a crumbling foundation is whether or not one ‘puts’ Christ’s words into practice (verse 26). The question is not whether or not we ‘hear’ the words of the Lord, but whether or not we ‘practice’ those words. Practicing the word of God is the only way to build our ‘life’ on the rock.
