“인자와 긍휼이 무궁하신 하나님”
예레미야애가에서 우리는 마음에 구멍이 날 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있습니다. 예레미야는 말합니다. “이제 내게서는 찬란함도 사라지고, 주님께 두었던 마지막 희망마저 사라졌다” (3:18).
그의 상황은 우리의 상황과는 많이 달랐습니다. 그는 하나님의 심판을 전했고, 예루살렘이 망하는 것을 직접 보았습니다. 아름다움이 사라졌습니다. 패배와 고립과 하나님께 버림받음을 느꼈기 때문이었습니다. 그러나 그의 이야기는 그것으로 끝나지 않았습니다. 빛이 비추어졌습니다. 예레미야는 힘에 겹고 절망적이었지만 희망을 가졌습니다. 그 희망은 “여호와의 인자와 긍휼이 무궁하시므로 우리가 진멸되지 않는다”(22절)는 것을 깨달은 데서 왔습니다. 눈부신 아름다움이 사라졌을 때 기억해야 할 한 가지 사실이 여기 있습니다. 그것은 여호와의 “긍휼이 무궁하며 이것들이 아침마다 새롭다”(22-23절)는 것입니다. 우리가 아무리 암울한 날들을 지날지라도 하나님의 위대한 신실하심의 빛이 빛나고 있습니다.
In the book of Lamentations, we understood that the heart can be punctured. “My splendor is gone,” Jeremiah said, “and all that I had hoped from the Lord” (3:18).
His situation was far different from yours and mine. He had preached God’s judgment, and he saw Jerusalem defeated. The splendor was gone because he felt defeated, isolated, and abandoned by God. But that’s not the end of his story. Light shined through. Jeremiah, burdened and broken, stammered out “I have hope” – hope that comes from realizing that “because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed” (v. 22). And here is just what we need to remember when the splendor is gone: God’s “compassions never fail. They are new every morning” (vv. 22–23). Even in our darkest days, God’s great faithfulness shines through.
