《 계명 중에 가장 중요한 것 》
고대 이스라엘의 종교지도자들은 율법을 내세워 하나님과의 관계를 너무 복잡하게 만들어버렸습니다. 종교규칙의 무거운 짐이 점차 증가하여 급기야 모세 율법의 전문가도 율법의 핵심을 이해하는 것이 힘들 지경이 되었습니다. 그런 종교지도자 중 한 명이 예수님에게 계명 중에 가장 중요한 것이 무엇이냐고 물었을 때, 예수님은 대답하셨습니다. “첫째는 이것이니 이스라엘아 들으라 주 곧 우리 하나님은 유일한 주시라 네 마음을 다하고 목숨을 다하고 뜻을 다하고 힘을 다하여 주 너의 하나님을 사랑하라 하신 것이요 둘째는 이것이니 네 이웃을 네 자신과 같이 사랑하라 하신 것이라 이보다 더 큰 계명이 없느니라”(막12:29-31). 모세의 율법은 무거운 짐이었지만, 그리스도를 믿는 믿음은 단순하고 주님의 “짐은 가볍습니다”(마11:30). 그것이 가벼운 이유는 하나님이 우리를 기꺼이 용서하셨고 또 사랑하셨기 때문입니다. 우리 가슴 속에 깃든 주님의 사랑이 하나님과 이웃을 사랑하게 합니다.
The religious leaders in ancient Israel made their relationship with God too complex with laws. The growing burden of religious regulations had increased to the point where even an expert in Moses’ law struggled to understand its core. When one such leader asked Jesus what mattered most in the Commandments, Jesus responded, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these” (Mark12:30-31). The law of Moses was burdensome, but faith in Christ is simple and His “burden is light” (Matt.11:30). It’s light because God was willing to forgive us and love us. God’s love in our heart gives us a heart for Him and others.
