<“섬기는 지도자, 느헤미야”>
이스라엘의 백성이 어렵고 위험한 상황에서 예루살렘의 성벽을 재건할 때에 지도자 느헤미야는 벽을 쌓고 보초를 서는 두 가지 일을 모두 했습니다. 지도자인 그에게는 특별한 음식이 준비되었지만 그는 전에 있던 지도자들과는 달리 그런 음식을 거절했습니다. 그는 모든 사람들이 먹는 음식을 똑 같이 먹었습니다(느 5:18). 지도자에게는 두 가지의 선택이 있습니다.
하나는 자기 자신을 섬기려 하는 마음의 유혹이고, 다른 하나는 자기가 맡은 사람들을 섬길 수 있는 기회입니다. 느헤미야는 섬기는 지도자가 되는 길을 선택했고 그 결과 크나큰 존경을 받게 되었습니다. 권력을 가진 사람들은 주님의 명령에 따라 도움이 필요한 사람들을 섬기는 데에 자신의 힘을 사용하여야 합니다. 주님께서 당신을 지도자의 자리에 앉히신다면 당신은 섬기는 지도자가 되게 해달라고 주님께 기도하십시오. 섬기는 지도자가 좋은 지도자가 됩니다.
When Israel was rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem under hard and dangerous conditions, their leader Nehemiah took his turn at both building and standing guard. Special food was allotted to him as the leader, but he refused to accept it, unlike his predecessors. He ate from the same rations that were offered to everyone else (Neh.5:18).
Two options come with leadership: the temptation to serve yourself, and the opportunity to serve the people you lead. Nehemiah chose to be a servant-leader, and it earned for him enormous respect. All those who have authority should use their power to lead by taking orders from the Lord and serving those in need. If the Lord ever places you in a position of leadership, ask for His help to be a leader who serves. Leaders who serve will serve as good leaders.
