어린 아들이 운전면허증을 따자마자, 목회자인 아버지에게 아버지의 중고차를 타고 다닐 수 있게 해 달라고 조르는 것이었습니다.
목회자인 아버지는 중고차를 빌미로 해서, “만약 학교 성적이 오르고, 성경공부를 조금 더 하고, 너의 긴 머리를 자른다면, 한번 생각해 보마”라고 말했습니다.
한달후, 아들은 아버지를 찾아와서 아버지가 요청한 대로 하였으니 중고차 사용을 허락해 달라고 하자,
아버지가 “아들아, 네가 자랑스럽다. 학교 성적도 올랐고, 부지런히 성경공부도 하였구나.
하지만, 긴머리는 여전하구나!” 그러자, 아들이 대꾸하기를, “아버지, 머리 문제에 대해 생각해 보았어요.
성경에 보니까, 삼손도 긴머리였고, 모세도 그러했고, 노아도, 심지어 예수님도 긴머리이셨죠.”
아버지는 우습다는 듯이 이렇게 말했습니다. “그래 네 말이 맞다. 그들은 다들 긴머리였다.
하지만, 네가 성경을 좀 더 읽어보아야 하겠구나. 그들은 차가 없이 어디든 걸어 다녔다는 것을…”
A teenager had just gotten his driving permit. He asked his father, who was a minister, if they could discuss his use of the car. His father said to him, “I’ll make a deal with you. You bring your grades up, study your Bible a little, and get your hair cut, then we will talk about it.”
A month later the boy came back and again asked his father if they could discuss his use of the car. His father said, “Son, I’m real proud of you. You have brought your grades up, you’ve studied your Bible diligently, but you didn’t get your hair cut!”
The young man waited a moment and replied, “You know, Dad, I’ve been thinking about that. I’ve read in the Bible that Samson had long hair, Moses had long hair, Noah had long hair, and even Jesus had long hair.” His father replied, “Yes, Son, and if you read on further you’ll find out that they walked everywhere they went!”
